N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) is anacetylated form of L-cysteine. It has an acetyl group, which has the advantage that the amino acid is more stable on the one hand and, on the other hand, dissolves better in water.
L-cysteine is a sulfur-containing, semi-essential amino acid. The advantage of N-acetylcysteine is that it is more easily absorbed by the body than regular cysteine. Cysteine is the direct precursor of glutathione in the human organism and supports the natural production of glutathione in our cells. Glutathione is contained in all cells in the body.
